In the year 1977, Mr. Kurian Jose who was running a Banking Institution entered into the industrial field by setting up the largest Ice plant with Cold Storage facilities in Cochin, under the name Deepa Ice & Cold Storage.

After successfully running the unit for a period of time, as a part of diversification a new company Marine Chemicals was established in the year 1982 with a view to manufacture AGAR AGAR food grade (China Grass). As a result of constant focus on R&D, Bacteriological and Pharmaceutical grade AGAR AGAR was introduced in the year 1989. Currently, the production is carried out at 3 different centres in the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu with a production capacity over 60 M.T per annum.

We have well trained & experienced crew with a fleet of mechanised boats for collecting the best quality seaweeds, found on the gulf of Mannar. Today, Marine Chemicals is the market leader and an established name in the supply of quality AGAR AGAR in India. and Worldwide. We are the exclusive supplier of Agar to many MNC'S and also to 90% tissue culture laboratories in India.

It has also established a STRONG REPUTATION in the export market. The countries to which AGAR AGAR is being exported includes; Australia, Argentina, Botswana, Bahrain, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Egypt, France, Greece,Germany, Holland, Israel,Iran, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, Mauritius, Oman, South Africa,Srilanka, Taiwan,USA and UAE. The production units are located in 3 different centres - Kochi, in the state of Kerala, Pamban & Madurai in the state of Tamilnadu. The combined production capacity is 60 M.T. per annum. The product range includes bacteriological grade (Standard, super and superfine), pharma and food grade in strips, powder and shred form.
