| Chitosan is a linear polysaccharide used for commercial and biomedical purposes .The formal name of chitosan is Β-1, 4-poly-D-glucosamine formula having the physical appearance white or grey and is processed by removing the shells from shell fish. Chitosan is regarded as the sixth life element except sugar, protein, grease, vitamin and mineral matters, which plays important role in physical action of body. Hair Care : Chitosan forms a clear, elastic film on hair, increasing its softness and mechanical strength. The material can be used in shampoos; permanent wove agents, hair colorants, styling lotions, hair sprays and hair tonics.
Skin Care : Chitosan can function as a moisturizer and works as an anti-agent for skin. Because of its lower cost, it might compete with hyaluronic acid in this application. Chitosan is already found in creams, pack materials, lotions, nail enamels, foundations, eye shadows, lipsticks, cleansing materials and bath agents. Strong potential also exists for Chitosan as an alternative to collagen in treating wrinkles, acne, scars and other injuries to soft skin tissue.
Oral Care : Chitosan can be used in toothpastes, mouthwashes and chewing gums; they freshens the breath and prevent the formation of plaque and tooth decay. Salts of Chitosan added to toothpastes mask the unpleasant taste of silicon oxide and bind powders so that they maintain their granular shape. Chitin can also be applied as a dental filler material. Chitosan can absorb Candida a thicans, a fungus that sticks to teeth, making them candidates to clean false teeth.
Water Filtration : In environmental protection region, chitosan is suitable for waste water treatment, albumen callback and water purification etc. The ability of Chitosan to bind metals, combined with its flocculating properties, provide applications in treating drinking water, pools and spas, and various waste streams.
