Our journey started in 1982 when Mr. Kurian Jose Sr. launched a company specialising in the manufacturing of food grade Agar Agar (china grass) for the local market. Since then, we have focused on creating high quality products, and in 1989, our dedicated R&D team developed Bacteriological, Pharmaceutical and Plant Tissue Culture Grade Agar Agar. We also added Spreadable type Agar Agar Wondergel & all grades of Carrageenan to serve a wider client base. We have further expanded our portfolio to include Sodium Alginate in various grades such as food grade, cosmetic grade, impression grade, pharma grade. Also, we offer Plant gel (Gellan Gum) Xanthan Gum & Guar Gum.

Gradually, we increased our production capabilities to over 1500 M.T per annum. Marine Hydrocolloids is now one of the market leaders in India in Agar Agar and other hydrocolloids such as Spreadable type Agar Wondergel, Agarose, etc.

We not only serve the local markets but have created a global footprint. Marine Hydrocolloids is India's leading exporter of industry-specific Agar Agar products to South America, Europe, CIS & Russia, Africa, Middle East, Southeast Asia, USA, Far East, and Australia. We supply Agar to numerous MNC and commercial tissue culture laboratories in different parts of the world, including India.

Our Facilities

We have a prolific factory set-up that ensures the quality of the products and the safety of our employees. Situated at the heart of Kochi, the commercial capital of Kerala, we have specially designed our facilities to ensure high standards of quality and consistency in our products. Our plant complies with all the major environment and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) protocols, making it environment and employee friendly. We possess all the necessary certifications like ISO 22000:2018, HACCP, KOSHER, HALAL & FSSAI. We also have a legal drug license that allows us to manufacture pharma grade goods under safe limits.

The R&D department has always played a prominent role ever since the inception of the company. Our strong thrust towards innovation and improvement drives us to invest heavily in the research and development (R&D) of our products. We have an advanced, state-of-the-art pilot plant specially designed for our R&D experts. Here every new product is processed and tested before manufacturing them on a commercial scale.

Over the years, our strong, technically adept, and fully equipped R&D team has successfully developed various grades of Agar-Agar, its derivatives, and other natural biopolymers. All of these are developed to serve specific uses. Our research team is always on the quest to explore more into the rich natural biopolymers of marine life and its possibilities to serve humankind.
